DDC is looking to fill a role of a UAV Design Engineer (6-month contract, with possibility of extension). You will make a difference everyday as you navigate the following duties and responsibilities:


UAV Design Engineer


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design robotic systems and mechanical assemblies to support the development of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS)  
  • Integrate and test mechatronic or robotic systems in the field and / or lab environments
  • Optimize and validate mechanical designs using methods such as Finite Element (stress) Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
  • Evaluate and select technologies for integration into unmanned aircraft systems (UAS)
  • Debug and resolve technical issues which arise during bench or flight testing
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation pertaining to system designs or test results
  • Liaise with external suppliers and manufacturers to source required components


Education, Professional Development & Work Experience:

  • University degree or college diploma in aerospace, computer, electrical, mechanical or mechatronics engineering or computer science
  • At least 1 year professional experience in an engineering or related position
  • Experience in finite element (stress) analysis using software such as ANSYS
  • Experience with aerodynamic design and analysis including Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations  
  • Experience with composite material design and/or manufacturing
  • Experience with computer programming languages (C/C++ and/or Python)
  • Experience designing safety critical systems for aerospace and/or manned vehicles 
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical and/or electrical assembly and manufacturing
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

 Hours of Work, Work Environment and Potential Travel

  • 6-month contract, with possibility of extension
  • 37.5 hours per week and some overtime occasionally
  • Position is predominantly in an engineering lab, and field projects is expected
  • Must be able to travel both domestically & internationally from time to time
  • Valid Class-G driver’s license in good standing and regular access to a personal vehicle required
