Duties & Responsibilities

Using your expert analytical skills, you will monitor DDC technology solutions that provide essential services to both internal employees and external vendors and customers. You will make a difference everyday as you navigate the following duties and responsibilities:


IT Systems Delivery & Operations


  • Carry out agreed operational procedures primarily focused on infrastructure monitoring
  • Proficient with core networking skills: routing, switching, firewalls, BGP, VLANs, VPN, WiFi, TCP/IP etc.
  • Actively maintain knowledge base for IT Systems and the helpdesk
  • Provide advice regarding the organization’s infrastructure for future planning and maintenance
  • Use infrastructure management tools to collect and report on load and performance statistics and to automate the provisioning, testing and deployment of new and changed infrastructure
  • Use standard operating procedures and tools to carry out and monitor system backups including scheduled test restores
  • Maintain company-wide network management for both LAN and WAN including but not limited to production, corporate, development, VOIP, WiFi, video teleconference and security systems
  • Effectively coordinate changes of high complexity and impact with vendors, service partners and other business units
  • Prepare high quality documentation including procedures suitable for customers and executives
  • Create high quality diagrams of all networking related designs and tasks


Problem Solving and Analysis


  • Install, configure and maintain technology infrastructure and systems to support and improve the efficiency of operations
  • Identify and resolve network problems following agreed procedures
  • Carry out agreed network maintenance tasks
  • Maintain the network support process and check that all helpdesk requests for support are dealt with in a timely manor according to organisational procedures
  • Use network monitoring software and tools to investigate and diagnose network problems, collect performance statistics and create reports
  • Investigate problems in systems, processes, procedures and services and assist with the implementation of agreed remedies and preventative measures


Testing and Support


  • Monitor support tickets and performs ticket triage, responding to equipment malfunctions, unusual or other situations that impact system's performance
  • Perform diagnostics and other problem-solving activities and implement remedial procedures as required
  • Provide systems and technology incident and service request tickets resolution and troubleshooting
  • Perform hands-on testing, document and testing procedures before implementation
  • Review requirements and specifications and define test conditions
  • Investigate and coordinate the resolution of potential and actual service problems
  • Prepare and maintain operational documentation for system software


Maintenance, Planning and Configuration


  • Analyze, develop and maintain internal technology systems, including performance requirements, database, standards and documentation
  • Assist with executing planned enhancements, maintenance and support of departmental applications and other technology services
  • Maintain existing systems, checks logs and oversees batch jobs completion
  • Apply tools, techniques and processes to administer, track, log, report on and correct configuration and components
  • Other tasks, as may be assigned.


Minimum Qualifications


  • 2+ Years of proven experience using SolarWinds Orion monitoring software in a production environment (Required)
  • Extensive Experience with SNMP and Alert Monitoring systems and design 
  • Experience in Windows Server environment including Hyper-V, VM’s, Microsoft SQL and Active Directory
  • Experience with Dell EMC Data Boost backup a plus
  • Degree in Computing Science (related field) along with 2 year of progressively responsible experience in network support in a large complex enterprise IT environment, or Diploma and 3 years of relevant experience, or Certificate and 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Working knowledge of Cisco Meraki and WatchGuard network technologies including routers, switches, wireless access points and networking protocols
  • Cisco Meraki network technologies certification & training is an asset
  • Cloud computing (Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform) certification & training is an asset
  • Network security certification & training is an asset
  • Knowledge of the following protocols HTTP, HTTPS, SNMP, FTP, SMTP, POP3, IMAP, DNS, SSH, TELNET, SSL, TCP, ICMP, SIP, UDP related to network monitoring
  • Port Mirroring for analysis and monitoring
  • Working knowledge of network management tools & technologies, including SolarWinds NPM (Network Performance Monitor) & SAM (Server & Applicetion Monitor)
  • Hands on data center experience: Racking, cabling, power etc.
  • Install, configure and troubleshoot Hardware installations
  • Knowledge of network load balancer technologies
  • Knowledge of scripting & automation tools
  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft Visio tool
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes an asset

Hours of Work, Work Environment and Potential Travel


  • 37.5 hours per week and some overtime occasionally
  •  8:30am to 4:30pm
  • Ability to participate in a 24/7 on-call support
  • Applicants may be tested
